The #1 UFO Resource
One summer night in the 1970s (perhaps july, and sometime between 1973 and 1979), i was driving west along route 163 (east harbor road) near lakeside, ohio on the marblehead peninsula with my older sister and mother, shortly before 10pm, when we all saw a ufo up ahead and slightly to our right. it was a huge rectangular object – apparently as long as one to 1½ football fields – with very many extremely bright lights around its edge (red, white, and blue) blinking sequentially, plus a few lights on top. the object was at a low altitude (less than 1000 feet and maybe less than 500 feet) and moving slowly in a westerly or wnw direction, estimated at less than 50 mph. the lights illuminated the sides of the object enough to show that the object was light-colored – possibly white, dull silver, or light tan. for the next five to 10 minutes, until we turned off the road upon reaching home, we all watched the object in fascination. it continued to move in total silence, never changing speed but slowly veering to the north and possibly gaining altitude slightly. it appeared to be between ¼ mile and one mile away when first spotted, and took up more than half the windshield in our field of view. the rectangular shape and configuration of lights were not consistent with any known type of blimp, while the very low speed and complete silence were not consistent with any conventional heavier-than-air craft. i remember thinking “it’s so big and slow, how could it not fall out of the sky?” we felt slightly apprehensive, but the object seemed benign. upon reaching home, we remarked that “we’re glad it didn’t land in our front yard” and told my father what we had seen, but he dismissed our report as implausible. we never reported the sighting to any authorities.
