I was at the local rancho santa margarita lake in orange county california. on new years day, on 1/1/2017 at midnight to 1am in the morning, i was going for a quick walk around the local lake, and i saw these "lights" in the side of my vision, so then i looked and then i fully saw them, there was about 6 of these "lights" at first, and they were going away from the local forest/mountains, they were flying away slowly, and they changed direction rapidly. and after that, 2 more of the same lights came from the forest/mountains, but these 2 moved faster than the others, but a little off of the same path of the others. when i first saw these "lights" i thought they were just helicopters, but then i remembered that there were no airports or bases around rancho santa margarita, and there's not a lot of helicopters nor airplanes that fly buy. and when they got about a mile away from the forest/mountains they vanished from plain sight. the 2 others got about a half a mile further than the others and did the same.
